APPENDIX   E GENERAL   TORQUE   LIMITS T M 9 - 2 8 1 5 - 2 0 2 - 34 REQUIRED FOR  FASTENERS  IN  ENGINE E-1.  GENERAL This  section  provides  the  general  torque  limits  for  fasteners  used  on  the  8V71T  series  engines. Special torque limits are indicated in the maintenance procedures for applicable components. These general  torque  limits  cannot  be  applied  to  fasteners  that  retain  rubber  components.  The  rubber components  will  be  damaged  before  the  torque  limit  is  reached. E-2.  TORQUE  LIMITS Table E-1 lists dry torque limits. Dry torque limits are used on fasteners that do not have lubricants applied to the threads. No wet torques are given because all wet torques are listed in the maintenance  procedure.  The  torques  given  are  suitable  for  grade  5,  5.1,  7,  and  8  fasteners.  No  grade 1 or 2 fasteners are used on an 8V71T series engine. E-3.  HOW  TO  USE  THE  TORQUE  TABLE a. Measure the shaft diameter of the fastener and count the number of threads per inch. b. Under the heading THREAD  SIZE, look down the column until you find the diameter and threads per inch of the fastener. Next,  look across that row and read the torque limit in Ib-ft  or N-m.
