STARTER DRIVE MECHANISM REPAIR -- CONTINUED

Assembly
1. Coat ball bearings (20) with engine oil and position on bearing flange of spur gearshaft (7).
2. Press lower ball bearing (20) on spur gearshaft (7) using a pressing sleeve on inner race of bearing.
3. Press upper ball bearing (20) on opposite end of spur gearshaft (7) in the same manner.
4. Coat new plain encased seal (19) with engine oil and carefully press into bearing housing (17) until seal is tight
against seal seat flange.
5. Press spur gearshaft (7) with assembled bearings into bearing housing (17) using an arbor press.
6. Coat ball bearing (22) with engine oil and press into spur gear (14).
WARNING
7. Install a new retaining ring (21) into spur gear (14).
