This section provides information for identifying and
correcting malfunctions which may develop while
operating the tamper.
The Troubleshooting Symptom Index in para-
graph 4-3 lists the common malfunctions which may
occur and refers you to the proper page in Table 4-1
for a troubleshooting procedure.
If you are unsure of the location of an item mentioned
in the troubleshooting procedure, refer to para-
graph 1-7 or to the maintenance task where the item
is replaced.
Before performing a troubleshooting procedure,
read and follow all safety instructions found in the
Warning Summary at the front of this manual.
This section cannot list all malfunctions that may
occur, nor ail probable causes and test procedures/
remedies. If a malfunction is not listed or is not cor-
rected by listed test procedures/remedies, notify
your supervisor.
When troubleshooting a malfunction:
(1) Locate the symptom or symptoms in para-
graph 4-3 that best describes the malfunction.
(2)
(3)
Turn to the page in Table 4-1 where the trouble-
shooting procedures for the malfunction in
question are described. Headings at the top of
each page show how each troubleshooting
procedure is organized: Problem, Probable
Cause, and Test Procedure/Remedy.
Perform each step in the order listed until the
malfunction is corrected. Do not perform any
maintenance task unless the troubleshooting
procedure tells you to do so.
4-2. EXPLANATION OF COLUMNS.
