TM 9--2815--247--34 0034 00--2 AFTERCOOLOER BY--PASS HOUSING ASSEMBLY REPAIR -- CONTINUED 0034 00 Disassembly WARNING 1.   Remove retaining ring (9) from housing assembly (2). Discard retaining ring. CAUTION Do not damage aftercooler piston surface. Any nicks, scratches, or corrosion will cause a malfunction of the unit and further damage to the engine. 2.   Remove aftercooler piston (10), two ring seals (11) and aftercooler spring (12). Discard ring seals. 3.   Wipe piston clean with soft clean rag and spray with lubricant (item 11, WP 0100 00). 4.   Remove four screws (13) and four flat washers (14) from thermal control housing (15). 5.   Remove thermal control housing (15), preformed packing (16), aftercooler sleeve (17) and preformed packing (18) as an assembly by tapping with nylon tipped driver from opposite side. 6.   Remove aftercooler sleeve (17) and two preformed packings (16 and 18) from thermal control housing (15).
