STARTER   REMOVAL/INSTALLATION This  task  covers: a.  Removal b.  Installation INITIAL  SETUP MODELS MANDATORY  REPLACEMENT  PARTS All 2  Lockwashers  (App  F,  Item  98) 3  Lockwashers  (App  F,ltem  97) TOOLS AND SPECIAL TOOLS 1  Lockwasher(App  F,  Item  99) 1  Gasket  (App  F,  ltem  63) General  mechanics  tool  kit  (App  B,  Item  96) Torque wrench (App B, Item 101) a.  Removal (1) (2) I (2.1) (2.2) (2.3) (3) (4) Remove bolt (1) and two Iockwashers (2) securing ground strap (3) to side of engine block. Discard  Iockwashers. Remove nut (4), Iockwasher (5), and starter ground strap (6). Discard Iockwasher. For model 7083-7391 only, disconnect glow plug power harness (1 O) by removing nut (11) and Iockwasher (12) securing red power lead connection (13) at battery terminal (14) on solenoid (15).  Remove  lead  and  reinstall  nut  and  Iockwasher. Remove nut (16) and Iockwasher(17) securing orange switch lead connection (18) at switch terminal (19) on solenoid (15). Remove lead and reinstall nut and Iockwasher. Remove nut (20) and Iockwasher (21) securing black ground lead connection (22) to ground terminal (23) on solenoid (15). Remove lead and reinstall nut and Iockwasher. WARNING Block or secure starter before removing the three bolts and Iockwashers that secure starter to engine flywheel housing. Component is heavy and dropping may result  in  injury  to  personnel. Support starter (6), and remove three bolts (7), three Iockwashers (8), and gasket (9) securing starter  to  flywheel  housing.  Discard  Iockwashers. Remove  starter  (6)  and  discard  gasket  (9). b.  Installation (1) (2) (3) Position gasket (9) and starter (6) on flywheel housing and secure using three bolts (7) and three Iockwashers (8). Torque bolts to 95-105 Ib-ft (129-143 N-m). Install starter ground strap (3) to cylinder block using bolt (1) and two Iockwashers (2) (one washer on each side of ground strap). Torque bolt to 23-26 Ib-ft (31-35 N-m). Install starter ground strap (3), nut (4) and Iockwasher (5) on starter. Torque nut to 20-25 Ib-ft (27-34  N-m). 3-32.1  Blank/3-32.2   Change   1
