NOTE
Engine assembly, as described in this section, is with the assumption that all units have
been repaired or are new and are ready to be assembled. During assembly operations,
it is important to closely inspect each unit to make sure nothing has been overlooked
during inspection and repair. Plugs should be checked for tightness, parts kept clean,
openings covered, and machined surfaces protected. Application of any type lubricant
should be performed from covered containers.
The timing code for this engine is BM Big Cam I or BY Big Cam III, reference the engine
data plate. Code BM is used for CPL 324 and 327. Code BY is used for CPL 393.

c. Changing Injection Timing
CAUTION
Never change cam follower assembly gaskets to correct injection timing until checking the
following:
Timing tool is correctly installed.
Dial indicators are correctly adjusted.
Crankshaft has been rotated in the correct direction.
Screws for cam follower assemblies have been tightened to 30-35 lb-ft (41-48 Nm).
