TM 9--2815--247--34 0015 00--24 INTAKE AND EXHAUST VALVE AND METERING PUMP TIMING -- CONTINUED 0015 00 Adjust -- Continued 25. Check valve timing by rotating flywheel (8) clockwise, as viewed from the flywheel end, approximately 1/8 turn to remove gear backlash, then turn counterclockwise until the intake valve is just closed. Stop rotating the flywheel (8) the instant the valve adjusting screw pad (17) becomes free. 26. Observe position of flywheel timing mark “6L INT CLOSE .100 CLR” (20). When timing mark (20) is aligned within 1/8 inch of engine timing mark (10), the valve timing is correct. If timing marks (20 and 10) are not aligned within 1/8 inch, withdraw shouldered shaft and repeat steps 22 through 26. NOTE When correct timing cannot be obtained as described above, it may be necessary to set timing mark (20) 1/8 to 1/4 inch out of alignment with mark (10) before installing shouldered shaft (30).
