TM 9--2815--247--34 0064 00--8 ENGINE CRANKSHAFT REPAIR -- CONTINUED 0064 00 Cleaning WARNING WARNING Compressed air used for cleaning purposes will not ex- ceed 30 psi (207 Kpa). Use only with effective chip guarding and personal protective equipment (goggles/ shield, gloves, etc.). Failure to comply may result in per- sonnel injury. 1.   Clean crankshaft (14). Refer to WP 0012 00. 2.   Clean crankshaft oil passages (28) with compressed air and brass wire probes. Inspection 1.   Visually inspect crankshaft (14) for cracks with a magnifying glass and a strong light. Pay particular attention to areas around crankshaft oil holes (28) and fillets adjacent to crankshaft counter weights (29). Replace any crank- shaft that has cracks. 2.   Inspect connecting rod journal radii (30) of crankshaft for wear or damage. Mark minor defects for future repair. 3.   Inspect journals (32) for nicks, burrs, grooves, scratches, galling, scuffing, or discoloration. Mark minor defect areas for future repair.
