TM 9--2815--247--34 0076 00--15 CAMSHAFT, DRIVE GEARS, AND ASSOCIATED PARTS REPAIR -- CONTINUED 0076 00 Installation -- Continued 22. Check valve timing by rotating flywheel (47) clockwise, as viewed from the rear, approximately 1/8 turn to remove gear backlash, then turn counterclockwise until the intake valve is just closed. Stop rotating the flywheel (47) the instant the valve adjusting screw pad (55) becomes free. 23. Observe position of flywheel timing mark (51). When timing mark on flywheel (51) is aligned within 1/8 inch of engine timing mark (49), the valve timing is correct. When timing mark is not aligned within 1/8 inch, withdraw shouldered shaft and repeat Installation steps 5 through 22. NOTE When correct timing cannot be obtained as described above, it may be necessary to set timing mark (51), 1/8 to 1/4 inch out of alignment with mark (49), before installing shouldered shaft.
