TM 9--2815--247--34 0083 00--1 GENERATOR DRIVE MECHANISM REPAIR 0083 00 THIS WORK PACKAGE COVERS: Test, Removal, Disassembly, Inspection, Assembly, Installation INITIAL SETUP: Tools and Special Tools General mechanic’s tool kit (item 19, WP 0103 00) Generator holding tool (item 21, WP 0103 00) Generator coupling tool (item 20, WP 0103 00) Engine turning tool (flywheel end) (item 1, WP 0104 00) Torque wrench (item 51, WP 0103 00) Slide hammer puller assembly (item 27, WP 0103 00 ) Mechanical adapter (item 1, WP 0103 00) Outside micrometer caliper set (item 9, WP 0103 00) Inside micrometer caliper set (item 10, WP 0103 00) Telescoping gauge set (item 16, WP 0103 00) Arbor press (item 2, WP 0103 00 ) Snap ring pliers (item 44, WP 0103 00 ) Torque wrench (item 52, WP 0103 00 ) Materials/Parts Retaining ring (item 115, WP 0102 00) Wire, nonelectrical (item 22, WP 0100 00) Preformed packing (item 81, WP 0102 00) Self--locking nut (item 48, WP 0102 00) Lockwashers (5) (item 152, WP 0102 00) Gasket (item 6, WP 0102 00) Gasket (item 18, WP 0102 00) Lubricant (item 14, WP 0100 00) Lubricant (item 12, WP 0100 00) Safety goggles (item 28, WP 0100 00) Equipment Conditions Engine on maintenance stand (WP 0056 00) Spur gear (accessory drive) removed (WP 0068 00) Test 1.   Position generator coupling tool (1) on generator adapter (2) and secure with coupling clamp (3), which was re- moved with generator. 2.   Install engine turning tool (4) on flywheel (5), and block so engine cannot rotate. 3.   Using a 300 lb--ft (406 NSm) capacity torque wrench (6) on the generator coupling tool (1), remove the backlash and gradually increase torque to 167 lb--ft (227 NSm). If slippage occurs below 167 lb--ft (227 NSm), the spur gear slip clutch is defective and must be replaced. 4.   Check the torque rotational deflection rate, noting the deflection in degrees from 0 to 167 lb--ft (0 -- 227 NSm), by gradually applying 167 lb--ft (227 NSm) of torque to the generator coupling tool (1). If rotation is less than 8°, or greater than 17°, the spur gear slip clutch is defective and must be replaced. 5.   Remove coupling clamp (3) and generator coupling tool (1). 6.   Remove engine turning tool (4) from flywheel (5).
