17. Remove retaining ring (37) and plug (38). Discard retaining ring.
18. Remove eye bracket (39), ball bearing (40), and shims (41) from spur bevel gearshaft (10).

Inspection
1. Visually inspect compression springs (28), timing advance retainers (29), seats (30), and springs (35) for cracks,
indentations or other damage. Replace any damaged parts.
2. Measure free length (42) and maximum solid height (43) of two compression springs (28). Replace compression
springs if not within the following limits.
